CURRICULUM & RESOURCES

The Wolf Education & Research Center, a privately funded 501(c)3 non profit organization, recognizes the importance of education to people young and old alike. It is with great pleasure that the Center offers to you, the educator, an opportunity to have WERC's staff visit your classroom and share in a wonderful day of fun activities while applying the lessons of nature to required daily subject matter. The Center's education programs are made possible by members, sponsors and other supporters that understand the value of a well rounded education experience.

About the Curriculum
The Wolf Education and Research Center (WERC) has adopted the Project Wild Curriculum. This curriculum focuses on wildlife and habitat and includes No Child Left Behind (NCLB) emphasis. Activities are designed for integration into existing courses of study and instructors may use one or many WERC lesson plans or the entire set of lesson plans, which serve quite effectively for a course of study. These activities range in length and are customizable to the instructor's needs.

Each WERC activity contains all the information needed to conduct that activity including objectives, method, background information, a list of materials needed, procedures, evaluation suggestions, recommended grade levels, subject areas, duration, group size, setting, and key terms. A glossary is provided, as well as a cross-reference by topics and skills.

Sample Activity
This sample activity, Wildlife is Everywhere, exemplifies one of WERC's main goals, connecting people and wildlife. Simple and accessible, the activity invites students to explore the environment around them in search of wildlife; bringing wildlife "closer to home." Not only does the activity help students become aware of the wildlife we share our environment with, but it invites them to think about which animals are suited for which environments and what we can do to protect them.
