At one time, WERC had a beneficial arrangement with Healthy Planet, a California based corporation. Healthy Planet created educational kits that brought much needed information about a variety of species of animals that were endangered and protected. They would seek retail partnerships across the nation and solicit organizations that worked to protect and educate about animals, who would lend the images and personalities of their animals in exchange for a small percentage of their profit.
After receiving numerous complaints from Planet customers, WERC contacted them to resolve and update the information being marketed. Key issues included customers receiving outdated material or not receiving material at all. And even though WERC bore no responsibility for the purchase, it was our wolves and some of our members who were taken advantage of by this company.
Two years later, WERC has still not resolved our issues with Healthy Planet. They continue to sell kits that bear our name and we continue to field phone calls and emails that reflect a broken promise on their part. Even the WERC President purchased a kit before he was running the organization. After four phone calls and four emails, nobody from HP bothered to respond to his inquiries about where the purchase was, since there was not one received by mail.
As a result, WERC is doing the following to honor the people who share our conviction and interest in protecting and educating the public about wolves.
- WERC recommends that customers NOT purchase from Healthy Planet.
- WERC will answer all requests from unsatisfied HP customers who have received poor or no service related to the Sawtooth Pack of the Nez Perce. With proof of purchase, WERC will mail out a Member Package including a Certificate of Membership and an 8x10 Picture of the Pack.
- WERC is working toward the completion of our own Wolf Kit. This kit includes a Membership in WERC, a copy of the Elder Eight Print, and a Family Pass to the Center in Winchester, Idaho.
- WERC is exploring the prospect of legal action against HP in the fraudulent sales and representation of our organization and seeking damages associated to the loss experienced in our effort to respect the consumer public.
